<description>Hi James, thanks for alerting me to this post. I have to say that I don't want to sit on the fence on this one -but I am personally someone that has turned voicemail off.

I don't think voice mail is dead - I believe you have to be in the mood for voicemail or have a business with a "necessity". In a moment of anger about 2 years ago I threw away my answering maching for my fixed line and have my mobile phone voice mail off too. If you want to reach me urgently you have to turn up at the office, email me or skype.

I know we spoke about setting me up on Spinvox to try it again and I will. But in my industry (news) the phone doesn't stop. Email is just easier for me to manage and because its easy to get sued in the news - I also prefer written documentation (via email).

Is a spinvox voicemail to text recognised by the law? If it is I can see how it might be useful. What I think Spinvox has huge potential with in the future is your MTV HIV service - I think things like that and promoting it prove to non-believers like me that there are some quality social aspects to voicemail/ messaging services.

		<description>Tellingly, you SMS'd him back.

There are times when you want to leave a voicemail, not speak to a person. For example, giving someone some piece of persistent information, telling your boss you're off sick, etc.

Some operators allow you to dial a Voicemail number to go straight to the mailbox - but it's not standardised. Perhaps, in the glorious future, dialing #+447..... will go straight to voicemail and we can speak and read little messages with impunity :-)
